1. Introduction

Welcome to FlashRead, a Chrome browser extension developed by Storq Labs BV ("Company," "we," "us," or "our"). FlashRead is a speed reading extension that uses RSVP (Rapid Serial Visual Presentation) to display text one word at a time, helping users read articles faster by extracting text from web pages and displaying it in an overlay.

This Privacy Policy explains our data practices and your rights regarding any information processed by the extension. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how the extension operates.

2. Information We Collect

FlashRead stores the following information locally on your device only using Chrome's built-in storage API:

• Reading Speed: Your preferred words-per-minute setting
• Font Size: Your chosen text display size
• Theme Preferences: Your selected visual theme
• Other Display Settings: Any customization options you configure

3. Information We Do NOT Collect

We want to be absolutely clear about what we do NOT do:

• We do NOT collect any personal identifying information
• We do NOT require account creation or login
• We do NOT store any data on external servers or cloud services
• We do NOT track your browsing history or the URLs you visit
• We do NOT see, store, or transmit the content of pages you read
• We do NOT use analytics, tracking SDKs, or telemetry
• We do NOT make any network requests from the extension to our servers
• We do NOT sell, rent, or share any user data with third parties (we have no data to share)
• We do NOT access your bookmarks, history, or other browser data
• We do NOT monitor or record your reading behavior or patterns

4. Chrome Permissions Explained

FlashRead requires the following Chrome permissions to function. Here is what each permission does and why it is needed:

• activeTab: Allows access to the current tab's content only when you actively invoke the extension (click the icon or use the context menu). The extension cannot read tabs you haven't activated it on.
• scripting: Allows injection of the reading overlay into web pages. This is necessary to display the RSVP reading interface on top of the page you're viewing.
• storage: Allows saving your preferences (reading speed, font size, theme) locally using Chrome's sync storage. This data stays on your device/Chrome profile.
• contextMenus: Allows adding right-click menu options to start reading selected text or the entire page.

5. How the Extension Works

FlashRead processes web pages entirely on your device:

• When you activate the extension, it extracts text content from the current page
• Text is processed in-memory only and displayed one word at a time using RSVP
• All content extraction and rendering happens locally in your browser
• Extracted text is never persisted to disk or transmitted anywhere
• No data is ever sent to our servers or any third-party servers
• When you close the reading overlay, the extracted text is discarded from memory

6. Third-Party Services

FlashRead does not integrate with or transmit data to any third-party services. The extension operates entirely locally.

The extension is distributed through the Chrome Web Store. Google's privacy policy and terms of service apply to the download and installation process:

7. Data Storage & Deletion

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control over it. You can delete all extension data at any time by:

• Removing the FlashRead extension from Chrome
• Clearing extension data through Chrome's settings (chrome://settings/content/all)
• Using Chrome's "Clear browsing data" feature with the cookies and site data option selected

There is no data stored on our servers to delete because we never collect any data in the first place.

8. Children's Privacy

FlashRead is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Since we do not collect any personal data from anyone, there is no risk of inadvertently collecting children's data. If you believe a child has somehow provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

9. International Users & Compliance

FlashRead is designed to be compliant with major privacy regulations including:

• GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation): Since we collect no personal data, there is no personal data processing to regulate. Your rights under GDPR (access, rectification, erasure, etc.) are inherently satisfied as we hold no data about you.
• CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act): We do not sell personal information. We do not collect personal information. California residents have no personal data with us to access, delete, or opt-out of selling.
• Other Privacy Laws: Our zero-data-collection approach means we inherently comply with privacy laws globally.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE EXTENSION IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY
• FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE
• NON-INFRINGEMENT
• ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, OR COMPLETENESS
• UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE OPERATION

We do not warrant that the extension will meet your requirements, that operation will be uninterrupted or error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that the extension is free of viruses or other harmful components. You assume the entire risk as to the quality and performance of the extension.

11. Limitation of Liability

This includes, without limitation, damages for:

• Loss of profits, revenue, or business opportunities
• Loss of data or data corruption
• Loss of goodwill or reputation
• Cost of procurement of substitute services
• Any other intangible losses

This limitation applies regardless of the theory of liability (contract, tort, strict liability, or otherwise) and even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL DAMAGES EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE EXTENSION, OR IF THE EXTENSION IS FREE, ONE US DOLLAR ($1.00).

12. Third-Party Websites & Content

FlashRead extracts and displays text from third-party websites. We are not responsible for:

• The content, accuracy, or opinions on third-party websites
• Any errors in text extraction or display
• Any violations of third-party website terms of service resulting from your use of the extension
• Any intellectual property issues related to content you choose to read

You are solely responsible for ensuring your use of the extension complies with the terms of service of any websites you visit.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Storq Labs BV, its officers, directors, employees, agents, and affiliates from and against any and all claims, damages, obligations, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees) arising from:

• Your use of the extension
• Your violation of this Privacy Policy or any applicable laws
• Your violation of any third-party rights, including intellectual property rights
• Any content you access or interact with through the extension
• Any claim that your use of the extension caused damage to a third party

14. Service Availability & Discontinuation

By using FlashRead, you acknowledge and agree that:

• We may discontinue the extension at any time without prior notice
• We make no guarantee of continued service availability
• Features may be added, changed, or removed at our sole discretion
• We are under no obligation to maintain, update, or support the extension
• No refunds will be provided upon service discontinuation except where required by law
• You should not rely on the continued availability of this extension

15. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

This Privacy Policy shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Netherlands, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

Any disputes arising out of or relating to this Privacy Policy or your use of the extension shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in the Netherlands. You hereby consent to the personal jurisdiction of such courts and waive any objection to venue in such courts.

16. Changes to This Policy

We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time at our sole discretion. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Your continued use of the extension after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Privacy Policy.

We encourage you to review this policy periodically for any changes. Changes are effective immediately upon posting to this page.

17. Severability

If any provision of this Privacy Policy is held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. The invalid or unenforceable provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable while preserving the parties' original intent.

18. Entire Agreement

This Privacy Policy, together with any applicable Terms of Service, constitutes the entire agreement between you and Storq Labs BV regarding your use of the extension and supersedes all prior agreements, representations, and understandings.
