Privacy Policy
Effective Date: February 2, 2026
PRIVACY-FIRST DESIGN
HyperRead is designed with your privacy as the top priority. We do NOT collect personal information, create user accounts, or transmit your reading data to external servers. Your documents, progress, and preferences are stored locally on your device only.
Table of Contents
1. Introduction
Welcome to HyperRead, an iOS speed reading app developed by Storq Labs BV ("we," "us," or "our"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect (and more importantly, what we do NOT collect), how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
Summary: HyperRead uses RSVP (Rapid Serial Visual Presentation) technology to display text one word at a time for faster reading. All your documents, reading progress, and preferences are stored locally on your device only. We do not create user accounts, collect personal information, or transmit your reading data to external servers. The app is fully functional offline after content is imported.
2. Information We Do NOT Collect
We want to be absolutely clear about what we do NOT collect:
- We do NOT require user registration or accounts
- We do NOT collect names, emails, phone numbers, or personal identifiers
- We do NOT collect location data
- We do NOT access your contacts or address book
- We do NOT collect health data
- We do NOT collect financial information
- We do NOT use advertising identifiers or track you across apps
- We do NOT use third-party analytics (no Firebase, Sentry, etc.)
- We do NOT send crash reports or telemetry data
- We do NOT transmit your reading content, progress, or statistics to any server
- We do NOT use cookies (this is a native app)
- We do NOT sell or share data with third parties
Your reading habits, documents, and personal data never leave your device.
3. Information Stored Locally (On Your Device Only)
HyperRead stores the following data locally on your device using AsyncStorage:
- Imported Documents: Articles, books, and text content you import via URL, paste, file upload, or Share Sheet
- Reading Progress: Your position in each document
- User Preferences: Words per minute (WPM), font settings, theme preferences, chunk size
- Reading Statistics: Words read, time spent reading, reading streaks (calculated locally)
- Onboarding Status: Whether you've completed the initial tutorial
This data is stored on your device only. We cannot access, view, retrieve, or recover this data remotely. If you delete the app, all locally stored data is permanently deleted.
4. Network Requests
HyperRead makes the following network requests:
4.1 URL Content Extraction
- When you import an article via URL, the app fetches the web page directly
- Content extraction happens on-device - we do not use a proxy server
- The URL you request is sent to that website's server (standard web request)
- We do not log, store, or track which URLs you access
4.2 Public Domain Book Downloads
- The Discover tab allows downloading public domain books from Project Gutenberg and Standard Ebooks
- Downloads are fetched directly from these third-party services
- We do not track which books you download
IMPORTANT: After content is imported, the app is fully functional offline. No network connection is required to read your imported documents.
5. Third-Party Content Sources
HyperRead integrates with the following third-party content sources in the Discover tab:
Project Gutenberg
- Purpose: Public domain book downloads
- Data sent: Standard HTTP request for book content
- Privacy: Project Gutenberg's privacy policy applies
Standard Ebooks
- Purpose: High-quality public domain book downloads
- Data sent: Standard HTTP request for book content
- Privacy: Standard Ebooks' privacy policy applies
DISCLAIMER: We are not responsible for the privacy practices, content accuracy, or availability of these third-party services. Their respective privacy policies apply to content downloaded from their platforms.
6. Device Permissions
HyperRead may request the following permissions:
Clipboard Access (Optional)
Purpose: To detect URLs on your clipboard for quick import.
- iOS prompts you when the app accesses the clipboard
- Clipboard content is only read, never transmitted
- Used solely to detect URLs for article import
- You can deny this permission - manual URL entry still works
Network Access
Purpose: To fetch web articles and download books.
- Required for URL import and Discover tab
- Not required after content is imported (offline reading)
File System Access (Document Picker)
Purpose: To import EPUB, PDF, TXT, and Markdown files.
- Only accesses files you explicitly select
- Imported content is copied to app storage
- We do not scan or access other files on your device
Share Extension
Purpose: To receive URLs and text from other apps via iOS Share Sheet.
- Only receives content you explicitly share to HyperRead
- Shared content is stored locally for reading
Permission Denial: If you deny permissions, certain features may not work, but core reading functionality remains available.
7. Data Security
Because your data is stored locally on your device:
- Your data is protected by your device's built-in encryption (when device encryption is enabled)
- Your data is protected by your device passcode/biometrics
- No data transmission means no risk of server breaches or interception
- Network requests for URL fetching use HTTPS encryption
Disclaimer: Device security depends on your iOS settings. We recommend keeping your device updated and using a strong passcode.
8. Data Retention & Deletion
Local Data Retention
- Your documents, progress, and preferences are stored until you delete them or uninstall the app
- iCloud backup behavior depends on your device settings
How to Delete Your Data
- Individual documents: Delete from within the app library
- Reading progress: Reset progress within the app
- All data: Uninstall the app to delete all locally stored data permanently
Since we do not collect or store any data on our servers, there is no data to request deletion of from us.
9. Children's Privacy
HyperRead is intended for general audiences and is not specifically directed at children under 13. The app does not collect personal information from any users, including children.
Parents and guardians should supervise children's app usage and content imports. Users are responsible for ensuring imported content is age-appropriate.
10. International Users
HyperRead is available worldwide. Because all data is stored locally on your device:
- No International Data Transfers: Your reading data stays on your device and is not transferred internationally
- GDPR (EU): We do not process personal data. The app operates on a local-only storage model
- CCPA (California): We do not sell personal information because we do not collect personal information
11. Your Rights
Because your data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control:
- Access: Your documents and progress are stored on your device - you have full access
- Deletion: Delete individual documents or uninstall the app to delete all data
- Portability: Export or share documents using the built-in share feature
- Opt-out: Simply don't use features you don't want (URL import, Discover, etc.)
12. Content & Accuracy Disclaimers
IMPORTANT DISCLAIMERS
- URL Extraction: Article extraction from URLs is best-effort. Some websites may block access, use paywalls, or have dynamic content that cannot be extracted. We do not guarantee successful extraction from all URLs
- Content Accuracy: We are not responsible for the accuracy, completeness, or legality of content you import from URLs or files
- Public Domain Books: Books from Project Gutenberg and Standard Ebooks are believed to be in the public domain, but we do not guarantee their copyright status or content accuracy
- User-Imported Content: You are solely responsible for ensuring you have the legal right to import and read any content
- Reading Speed Claims: RSVP technology may help you read faster, but individual results vary. We make no guarantees about specific reading speed improvements or comprehension levels
- Reading Statistics: Statistics (words read, time spent) are estimates and may not be perfectly accurate
13. Changes to This Policy
We reserve the right to update this Privacy Policy at any time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Your continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. We may collect additional data in future versions of the app - any such changes will be reflected in an updated privacy policy.
